A Homemade Heritage is a home-based business owned and operated by the Horton family in southern West Virginia. Prompted by directions on a website and some interesting photographs, Jon and Cindy began making lye soap in the spring of 2010. The results were promising, and the idea of a new business was born.

Jon and Cindy were married in April of 1999 and have welcomed new sons into their home about every three and a half years. Nick was born in 2000, James in 2004, and Robert in 2007. All three boys are homeschooled using an eclectic mix of curriculum with a bent toward the Charlotte Mason style.

Cindy is a freelance writer who has worked with clients from around the world. Her writing business is called From Pen to Page.

Jon is originally from Tennessee but now calls himself a Volunteer Mountaineer. He grew up on a farm with plenty of horses to ride and still enjoys being outside, which fits very well with his lawn care business – Lawn Care by Jon.

Together, our family enjoys campfires in our backyard, tent camping when the weather isn’t too hot, reading good books aloud, and baking goodies in our kitchen.
